If you want to create engaging body sound experiences in a home theater or PA, you need subwoofers that have decent level reserves even in the lowest octave. Around the Redcatt SW15, we have developed a concept that does an excellent job both as a stereo bass compartment in the home theater, so in PA applications. The SW15 features a very low resonant frequency of 21hz and substantial linear excursion of 22mm, making it the perfect candidate for an "infra" bass project. At 90db, the efficiency is quite respectable for the low resonant frequency - and especially in the low-budget range. Problem-free continuous power handling of 800W and a voice coil thermal rating of up to a whopping 200 degrees guarantee that the drivers will hold up even in somewhat more ruthless PA applications.
A "reflex horn" principle was chosen for the cabinet design. Here we have found in our opinion the best ratio of low frequency response, efficiency, size and simplicity of construction. Efficiency up to 100dB and full levels to just below 30hz show here really where the hammer hangs. Already in solo operation around 35hz levels up to almost 125dB are possible - in the stack the efficiency increases significantly due to the higher flow resistance. In contrast to typical horns, the horn-reflex design can also be coupled very high in an emergency, since disturbing resonances only occur around 250hz and the distortion up to 500hz is also no problem.
Low, loud, simple, inexpensive, pretty - those who do not mind the approximately 240 liters of enclosure volume have probably found the egg-laying willow with this kit.
